The Postmortal

I've got to be honest in saying that summer reading was never something I enjoyed. Having a book assigned over the ridiculously short mental break that is summer just never sat well with me. However, The Postmortal was one of few books that really made me think. Not only about the topic and present themes, but about how it could apply to my life. The scenes and situation in the book, while full of imagery and lessons, were still simple enough to break down and adapt to everyday life. Issues ranging from bandwagoning and peer pressure to loss of loved ones and war. The main character, John Farrell, was definitely my favorite character. Not because he was heroic or even very dynamic, I just thought it was nice to have a main character who didn't save the day, who left you at the end of the book kind of going, "Oh.... that's it?". I just find it refreshing when an author decides to change the game up a little bit. I could definitely feel Magary's personality within the pages of The Postmortal, which I love about an author. I was pleasantly surprised by this book
